Michael Jordan
Biography
Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. Famously cut from his high school varsity team as a sophomore, he used that rejection as fuel for a career that would make him the most famous athlete in history. He attended the University of North Carolina, where he hit the game-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA Championship as a freshman.
Selected 3rd overall by the Chicago Bulls in 1984, Jordan was an immediate sensation. His athleticism was unlike anything the NBA had seen β dunks that seemed to defy gravity, a competitive instinct that bordered on obsessive. But it was not until he learned to fully trust his teammates that the championships came. From 1991 to 1993, and again from 1996 to 1998, the Bulls won six NBA titles in eight years.
Jordan's impact extended far beyond basketball. His Nike partnership created the Air Jordan brand β now generating over $5 billion annually β and his style influenced a generation of athletes. The documentary series "The Last Dance" (2020) reminded a new generation why he was revered as the absolute pinnacle of basketball excellence.
His signature "Flu Game" in the 1997 Finals (scoring 38 points while visibly ill), his defensive intensity, his late-game shooting under pressure, and his refusal to ever consider losing β these are the building blocks of the Jordan legend. He retired three times, but each time was eventually pulled back by his love of the game.

Memorable Quotes
"I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying."

"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."
β Michael Jordan
"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
