How Basketball Works
Basketball is played between two teams of 5. Players score by shooting the ball through a 10-foot (3m) high hoop. A standard NBA game is 48 minutes divided into four 12-minute quarters.
How It Works
- 1Two teams of 5 players compete on a 28m Γ 15m court
- 2The objective is to score points by shooting the ball through the opponent's basket
- 3Players advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing it) or passing to teammates
- 4A player cannot move with the ball without dribbling (traveling violation)
- 5The team with the most points at the end of regulation wins
Scoring
Field goals inside the 3-point arc = 2 points. 3-point shots (beyond the arc) = 3 points. Free throws = 1 point each. Free throws are awarded after fouls.
